How to Register for an Event

Finding and Opening the Registration Form

RRS.org registration is available for any event where the organizing authority has enabled it.

To register, go to the home page and find the event in either Current Events, Race Series or Upcoming Events.  Or you can navigate directly to the event pages if you have been provided a link.

If you are not taken directly to the Registration page, look for the Registration under the Action menu item at the top.

You do not need to be signed in to register, but signing in first is recommended. If you are signed in, your registration is linked to your account and accessible at any time from My Registrations under the Participant menu. If you are not signed in, you will be asked to verify your identity with a confirmation code sent to your email or phone after you complete the form.

Some events enable an AI-assisted voice intake. If this option appears, you can describe your registration details by speaking or typing in plain language and the system will pre-fill the form for you to review before submitting.

Registration Type

The first field asks for your registration type. Events may allow one or more of the following:
  • Competitor — the primary entry type for anyone racing.
  • Support Person — coaches, team managers, or other support staff. The boat-specific fields are hidden for this type.
  • Support Boat — for coach or support vessels. The boat-specific fields are also hidden.

Only the registration types the organizing authority has enabled will appear in the list. Select the one that applies to you before filling in the rest of the form, as your selection determines which fields are shown.

Boat and Entry Information

For competitor registrations, the form collects information about your boat and entry. The specific fields shown depend on how the event has been configured — fields not enabled by the organizer will not appear. Common fields include:
  • Boat Class — select from the classes the event has defined. May be required.
  • Division — select from the event divisions if the event uses them.
  • Make and Model — the manufacturer and model of the boat, used for handicap events.
  • Handicap Rating — your boat rating for handicap racing.
  • Country — your nationality code. Always required.
  • Sail Number — your boat sail number.
  • Boat Name — the name of your boat.

Fields marked with an asterisk are required. If a field does not appear, it has not been enabled for this event.

Skipper and Contact Information

Email address, first name, and last name are always required. The contact details you provide are used throughout the event to send you important notifications — hearing schedules, protest time limits, starting penalties, scoring inquiry responses, notices to competitors, and more. Without a phone number you will not receive SMS messages; without a WhatsApp number you will not receive WhatsApp messages. Providing both is strongly recommended.
Depending on the event, you may also see the following optional or required fields:
  • Club Name and Club Member Number — required at some events for club-based payment.
  • MNA Country and Member Number — your national authority country and membership number.
  • Gender — may be required for fleet divisions or competitive categories.
  • Date of Birth — may be required for age-restricted categories.
  • Clothing Size — collected if the event provides clothing or merchandise.
  • Medical Information — any information the organizing authority should be aware of for safety purposes.

If the event collects crew information, use the Add Crew link to enter additional crew members. Provide the same contact details for each crew member as for the skipper.

Emergency Contact and Insurance

Some events require emergency contact information — the name, phone number, email address, and relationship to you of a person to contact in an emergency. This information is visible only to the organizing authority and is not shared publicly.

If the event requires proof of insurance, you will need to enter your insurer name, policy number, and policy expiry date. Check the event sailing instructions for the required coverage level before registering.

Waivers and Acknowledgments

Before your registration is finalized, the event may require you to read and acknowledge one or more documents — liability waivers, event conditions, parental consent forms, or other materials set by the organizing authority. Each document is presented in full for you to read.
  • If a checkbox acknowledgment is required, check the box to confirm you have read and agreed to the terms.
  • If a typed signature is required, enter your full name in the signature field.
  • You can print any waiver as a PDF for your records using the print link below each document.

You cannot complete registration until all required acknowledgments are made.

Fees and Payment

Entry fees, if any, are presented after you complete the registration form. What you see depends entirely on how the event has set up its fees:
  • No fee — if all entry fees are zero, no payment screen appears and registration is completed immediately.
  • Early, standard, or late entry — the applicable fee is determined automatically by the date you register. If you see multiple fee options, select the one that applies to your class or division.
  • Credit or debit card payment via Stripe — enter your card details on the secure Stripe payment page. Your payment goes directly to the organizing authority. RRS.org does not hold event funds, and you will receive a payment receipt by email.
  • Club account or external payment — some events allow payment through a club member account or an outside system. If this option is offered, your registration will be marked as payment pending and the organizing authority will process the payment separately. No card details are required.
  • Optional extras — some events offer merchandise, social events, or other optional items that can be added to your registration. These appear alongside the entry fee.

After You Register

Once registration is complete you will receive a confirmation email. If you are signed in to RRS.org, your registration appears under My Registrations in the Participant menu on the event page, where you can view your registration details and any documents you acknowledged.

The contact information you provided — email, phone, and WhatsApp — is used throughout the event to send you notifications. Make sure those details are correct. If you need to update them, contact the organizing authority, as officials can edit competitor information from the Event Panel.

If the event uses electronic hearing requests and your boat is named as a party, all notifications will go to the contact details on file from your registration. This includes hearing schedule notices, decisions, starting penalty alerts, and jury question responses.
