An Event on RacingRulesOfSailing is meant to facilitate the shoreside management of a regatta. When creating the Event, you will need to provide some information and select the features that you will use. Once created, the Event will be available for officials, competitors, coaches and spectators.
On the home page of RacingRulesOfSailing, you can see a list of the events currently happening. Your event will appear here, available to the public, when it is within two weeks of the start date. Racing-Rules-of-Sailing-05-05-2026_08_37_PM.png73.2 KB
In order to create an Event, you must have a role as an Official. If you cannot see Toolbox on the menu on the navigation bar, you probably haven't selected the appropriate role when setting up your account. The form for creating a new Event includes the Title of the Event, the Start and End date, the Host and the location. In the Settings section, the first input is whether or not it is a Race Series. This determines where it is placed on the home page - either Current Regattas or Race Series. Generally, it the time period of the Event includes race days and non-race days, such as a summer series where racing only occurs on Wednesday nights, it is a Race Series. In the settings, select the status of the event. If you are using the site for a judge's training session or you are testing the functionality, use the Test status. Also complete the Type of protest committee, the Time Zone for the event and the first date when a competitor can Check In (if you're using the check in functionality.

Many of the features are available only to officials who support the site through becoming a Patron, but the basic features are free for anyone to use. Note that if you select Registration, there is a seperate Registration Settings page. Note that in the System category of settings, there is Confirm User Identity. This requires that anyone who is not signed into the system confirm their identity through 2FA to submit any of the forms on the site. And Enable AI Form Assistance enables a wizard for some of the forms that allows the user to get AI assistance to complete the relevant form. The next section allows you to select how competitors will be notified by the application. If SMS is selected, you can select what days SMS will be used, as it is charged by the day.
The next two sections allow for identifying who should recieve communications regarding the event. The first is Email of Accounting. These are persons responsible for receiving invoices and communications concerning any payments for the event. And the second is the Event Emails, which are published as officials for the event for the purposes of communications with competitors.
If your event will have multiple course areas, name there here. This will provide competitors with a pick list for adding to any form requiring identification of which course, and thus which race officer.
Select the wording to be used in the various different contexts. For example, if you have customized Decision Wording you want to use for this event, you can select that here (See How do I customize Decision Wording to help you customize a list). The Default Email Locale is the language that will be used for sending communications to the competitors.
