Does anyone know where the RACE OFFICIALS MANUALS COMMON SECTIONS has gone to?

A lot of work obviously went into preparing these, and I, for one, thought they were an invaluable resource.

When the Race Management Manual was updated in 2013, they appeared in the Contents, but the text was extracted into a separate document, which appeared in the Race Officials Race Officers Document Library. It's not there now.

The Judges Manual 2013 contained the Common Sections. The Judges Manual 2017 has now been published with no reference to the Common Sections. and the RACE OFFICIALS MANUALS COMMON SECTIONS does not appear in the Race Officials Judges Document Library.

The Umpires Match Racing Manual 2017 and the Umpires Team Racing Manual 2016 have no reference to the Common Sections.

Does anyone know what's going on?

The “Common Section” had lots of problems.
Among many, there was a safety boat plan that only anticipated multiple classes on the Olympic Trapazoid course. It assigned a safety boat to the top reach at all times whether there were sailboats there or not.
It had a safety equipment list for all RC, safety and protest committee boats. The list was good and met many country boating laws. But not all borrowed boats always have everything they are suppose to. Would a visiting official refuse to go on the water if a supplied boat was missing a floating tow line? If he or she did go out and something dreadful happened, how would an official respond to a lawyer asking why they ignored the international governing bodies manual’s safety list, especially if it was not a local requirement?
Also, some topics were not general but better suited for a specific desapline.
Two years ago the WS Race Officials Committee created a working party to redesign and rewrite the common sections. Last I knew, there hasn’t been much progress.

If you search the World Sailing web site, you will find a document that is titled "GUIDANCE FOR ALL RACE OFFICIALS" - it states ... formally known as the Common Sections. The one that I have printed out is dated June 2016, it also states - Race Management Policies for World Sailing Events (Fleet Racing). Like many things that appear and then disappear on the World Sailing web site, I was unable to find the document to provide you with a direct link. Give it a try - you may be able to find it hidden somewhere in the documents area.

Thanks Fields.

I was able to locate the document using the search terms you suggested, but I note that Pat has told us that it is no longer considered authoritative.

Are you saying you can't find Race Management Policies?

They're at the foot of the page Race Officials>International Race Officers>International Race Officers> Document Library.

They're also in a permalink in Section S of the Race Management Manual
