Definition of Boat?
There is no rule-book definition of "boat". Does it appear in any cases? Does it always include the skipper and crew?
In this case, it may determine who is the winner of a trophy. Full disclosure: I am currently holding the trophy, but feel I may need to give it up.

The [donor name] “Away” Trophy is a perpetual trophy awarded to the highest finishing boat that is not a member of the host fleet in a National Regatta. The trophy is a pen and ink drawing by Jim Bob generously donated to the Target Sailing Association. The trophy was first awarded in 1996 to recognize that it is the boats, skippers and crew traveling to Nationals which make this annual event so special.
I want y'all's opinion on whether a team (skipper/crew) that borrows a boat from the host fleet should be eligible for this trophy. Note that person does not need to trailer their own boat, though they do have other challenges related to borrowing a boat. Two complicating factors:
1) Every once in a while, the fleet races Nationals far enough away that all travelers borrow boats.
2) The winner has at least occasionally been a boat-borrower, including me before.

I seriously doubt that it is the hull and other equipment; mast, boom, sails, etc., that is a member of the class and whose 'home' could be used to determine whether or not they are a member of the host fleet. It is the people, more specifically the skipper, who would be members of the class and thus have a home fleet.
If I were on the PC, I would probably say that a skipper who is not a member of the host fleet but is a member of the class would be eligible for this trophy. Whether the boat, equipment, or rest of the crew are 'local' would not be relevant.
Boat - A sailboat and the crew on board, that are subject to the rules.
The CR refer to 'highest finishing boat that is not a member of the host fleet in a National Regatta'.
A. The sailboat is 'a member of the host fleet', supposing that the class rules provide for a boat to be a member of a fleet: possibly not, many CA rules provide for people to be members, but not boats.
B. The crew on board are not members of the host fleet (are they?)
A is true. B is false
A AND B is false.
The sailboat and the crew on board are not members of the host fleet.
