Some of you may recall that I twiddled around and built an online protest-form (hearing request form) generator using Google Forms (a local YC had asked me to build a Scoring Inquiry processor using Google Forms and I kind'a just kept going once I learned how).

That thread describing the project can be found here if you want to walk down memory lane.

Anyway, I hadn't touched the system since 2019 until a few days ago when a friend asked if the system could be customized to "hard-wire" the Race Office email-address into the form.  This would be beneficial to make sure the filings were going the right place and not off into the ether due to user-error typing in the email address.

So I looked into it, and I actually found a way to implement this without hard-wiring or custom-coding, but rather by passing those variables into the system using a custom URL.

I don't want to post those general instructions on the internet as I don't know what silliness might be possible, but I'd be happy to share with you privately the how-to's if you think it might be helpful to you or your organization.

At this point, I have the data to allow you to create a URL that pre-loads the:
  1. Event Name
  2. Organizing Authority
  3. Race Office email-address (where filings are supposed to be electronically delivered)

If you think that would be helpful/useful to you, you can shoot me a private email to my above email-address and I'll give you the instructions.  It's surprisingly simple to do (once you know how!).

A LOT of silliness is possible. Will the URL be visible to the email recipients?

I would recommend anyone using the pre-filling technique to use a URL shortener like tinyurl which would hide the data ID’s for passing in the published-link.

At my club, race on evening that end lately  make some difficulties for those who work in the morning because, our club is at least 45 min from home; without covid, we have real problem to make RC after race... we think that for the next year 2022, i will propose in the IS that we submit protest with a form like yours Ang and proceed by VC on zoom or other. In our littles races, if we cant solve these evening problem, we observe that some protest are abandoned what is a poor thing for every good race.
I have translate your form in french on google and make a questionnaire in french. These 2 doc are on google; if useful or need some correction, i will  be happy to make that. Use  or take it if useful and good for every one. You can have my form in french at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeob__LXLMa2Uk7uEzuS_7T0WIjT0_FMxfM5JyphMxTNpMbjA/viewform?usp=pp_url

Pierre … that is very cool. I’m a little busy right now, but will try to plug it together here in the future.

If you simply use Google to translate my current English Q&A and form into French “live”, is it usable at all to a non-English speaking French sailor?

Pierre,

If you want to try electronic protest processes, I strongly recommend that you switch in Appendix T Arbitration at the discretion of the protest committee.

The simplicity of the Arbitration process:  each side describes their version of the incident, each side asks questions of the other, arbitrator asks questions of the parties, is very suitable to use of email or other on-line communication.
