I have read

ONLINE RULES DOCUMENTS
Interpretations of Rule 42, Propulsion Rule 42

May 2021 – RRS 2021-2024
INTERPRETATIONS OF RULE 42, PROPULSION

In this link:

2°)
I have found that:

SCULL 3
Sculling to offset steering of the boat caused by backing a sail is prohibited.

About Laser Class we can read this link:
https://www.sailing.org/tools/documents/Rule42Laser201320032014-[16804].pdf

Prohibited actions:
Crabbing, but only if the rudder movements are forceful enough to offset the steering
caused by backing a sail. This will result in the boat moving to windward, parallel to the
starting line. – SCULL 3

3°)
MY QUESTION IS:
SCULL 3 is or maybe a rule in a Laser event ?

We can read in the DEFINITION of Rule
(g) any other documents that govern the event.

Cheers !!!!!

Hi,

The Rule 42 interpretations are a document published by World Sailing. They are referred to in the 'Introduction' chapter at the front of the rule book under the 'Interpretations' bolded term. And are also mentioned in RRS 42 itself. As per the chapter in the rule book, these are 'authoritative interpretations' of the racing rules.

Thanks Louis Mayo !!

So, If a ship sails doing "SCULL 3" action
( Sculling to offset steering of the boat caused by backing a sail is prohibited. )
is an 'authoritative interpretation'  that this boat breaks rule 42

Is ok ?

Thanks you !!!
Cata
