20 Nov 19:41 Boat issues - 20.11.2022
Thanks to all of you that are sending information on boat issues for us to fix. Please keep this information coming and don't forget to list the boat number when you do so as this is REALLY helpful. I am confident that this feedback will enable us to get all our boats back up to full race spec and equally matched for racing when it starts on Wednesday, November 23rd. Thank you for your support. Team work makes the dream work and I have a big dream for this class and all of you so you are helping to make that dream come true....THANK YOU!

Hi Everyone....I hope that all of you got some positive take-aways from the on water and off-water activities today and these learning points will be used tomorrow. We are getting there with the boats and we will have another go at fixing some remaining issues tomorrow morning. We have come up with a plan for tomorrow and here it is: Meeting for all teams at 10:00 in the same place as this morning. We will separate teams into 3 equal sized groups, with group 1 being all those teams that did NOT get out on the water today and groups 2 and 3 being made up of the rest of the teams. Please can all teams with sailors that require a hoist make sure that they state this requirement at the coaching sessions briefing as this information is super important for the team. Group one will go to the pontoons at 10:30 where the boats will be waiting with sails p and sail for around 2 hours before coming back in. Group 2 will launch and also sail for 2 hours, followed by group 3 who will come back in no later than 17:30. A de-brief session will take place on the large flat paved area located between the 2 hotel buildings as soon as all teams in group 3 have exited the pontoon. The dinner buffet will start at 18:30 in the same location as today. Any questions on this plan, please contact Christoffel.

Dear All, from 18:30 to 22:30 - the hotel is also going to prepare an evening meal buffet in the ballroom (same room that was used for the Coaching Clinic briefing) for all teams. This will be between 18:30 and 22:30 tonight and for the rest of the event. Again, if you do NOT wish to join the rest if the teams in this dedicated area or you simply wish to eat 'al fresco' on the terrace area, then please don't feel you have to eat in this area, the choice, as they say...is yours!

Dear All, from tomorrow morning onwards the hotel is going to prepare a dedicated breakfast buffet in the ballroom (located in the Race Management Corridor) for all teams. This is due to the hotel being full and the hotel management are keen to ensure that any wheelchair users are guaranteed to find a table that they can comfortably 'sit' at. This is decision has made off their own backs to help us and I would like to thank them for this very kind offer, and I am sure that we will all benefit from this venue from a social perspective. Should you wish to 'mix' with other guests who are not sailors as you might want to get away from sailing talk at Breakfast and dinner, please feel free to do so!

Some teams who have chartered coach boats for the event have kindly offered to take team members (coaches / sailors) of other teams who have not chartered coach boat (RIBs) during the Coaching Clinic days so as to help get more teams on the water this afternoon and tomorrow. This offer is very much appreciated, and I suggest that, for those teams whose sailors are able to transfer from a RIB / Coachboat to an RS Venture Connect sailboat on the water, to raise their hand (yes...just like school when you want to ask the teacher a question) or shout out at the combined Coach / Sailor briefing at 12:40 and ask if any team is able to take them on the water this afternoon. I appreciate that teams who have booked coachboats / RIBs will want to have these boats for themselves during the practice day and the main competition event so all I am asking for is help for today and tomorrow. After that, you can go back to having your own 'private' coachboats / RIBs so as to pass on top secret coaching tips to your own sailors. Thank you in advance to all teams who are willing to help those who did not have the ability to charter a coachboat.

The rigging of the boats is coming along well, and we look set to have at least 10, possibly 11 boats available today with the other 2-3 boats hopefully being ready tomorrow or at least by the practice race day on Tuesday. We are waiting on a delivery of 2 new masts and some additional hardware which is being flown to Oman on an Oman Air flight from the UK tonight. Thank you to everyone that has come to offer help to the boat rigging team. Your support means a lot and I am truly grateful for your offers.

Due to us currently only having 9-10 useable boats for todays on-water sessions I have taken the decision to postpone the start of the coaching clinic by 2 hours in order to enable us to work on getting more of the remaining boats rigged and ready for use. This means that all team coaches and sailors now have until 12:40 before they need to be in the ballroom are of the Event Management Corridor in the hotel. I am very sorry for having to make this decision and hope that your initial disappointment will be forgotten about or at least become a distant memory once we finally get our practical on-water program underway. I remain committed to making sure that we deliver an amazing event and I thank you for your support during this time.
